Mercedes-Benz AMG DTM C-Class

Mercedes-Benz AMG DTM C-Class 2007Like the road car, the 2007 AMG-Mercedes C-Class also represents the third generation of this model. With 54 victories out of 106 races in which it has been entered until the end of 2006 (in 1994 and 1995 and since 2004 in the DTM and also in the 1996 ITC which had been derived from the DTM), the C-Class is not only the most successful Mercedes-Benz in the championship, but the most successful car in the history of the DTM.

Development, design and construction began in March 2006 when the technicians and engineers headed by Gerhard Ungar, technical director of HWA, received the CAD data for the new model. About ten months later – on January 24, 2007 – the new C-Class for the DTM made its debut on the race track. At the roll-out and initial testing in Estoril, Portugal, Bernd Schneider and Bruno Spengler took turns behind the wheel; the two drivers who had finished the 2006 championship in first and second positions respectively.

Mercedes-Benz AMG DTM C-Class 2007Ungar and his colleagues started with a 1:2 scale wind tunnel model, because aerodynamic development played an important role. Parts such as doors, front screen and bonnet had to be designed and manufactured completely new to match the car’s new silhouette. The V8 engine with a cylinder angle of 90 degrees, a capacity of four litres and four valves per cylinder has been further optimised, particularly with respect to driveability. Equipped with two air restrictors, each with a diameter of 28 millimetres, as stipulated in the regulations, the engine now develops approximately 350 kW (476 hp) at 7500 rpm and delivers a peak torque of 500 Nm. The engineers also worked on the suspension where the toe-in and camber angles offer great scope for further improving both handling and driving dynamics.

In the 2007 season, Bernd Schneider, Mika Hakkinen, Bruno Spengler and Jamie Green will race the new AMG-Mercedes C-Class. Schneider (42) has been a member of the Mercedes-Benz DTM team since 1991. He achieved 41 race wins, and clinched the DTM Championship titles in 1995, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2006. Hakkinen (38) was the 1998 and 1999 Formula One World Champion with Team McLaren Mercedes. In 2001, the Finn retired from Formula One after 161 Grands Prix and 20 wins. Four years later, he came back in the DTM winning only his third race in the AMG-Mercedes C-Class at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Bruno Spengler (23) is the youngest HWA driver. For the French-Canadian, 2007 is the third year in the DTM. In his first year as a works driver in 2006, he won four races and ended the season as runner-up behind Schneider. Green (24) was the 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series Champion with a Dallara Mercedes. In the DTM, the Englishman collected six pole positions and five podium finishes until now.

Brabus Smart Fortwo

Brabus Smart Fortwo 2008What started in 2002 as a joint venture between Smart and Brabus has developed over the years into extremely successful cooperation in the field of vehicle tuning. The great popularity of the Brabus variants of the Smart shows the increasing customer interest in individualised cars. Together with Brabus, Smart will continue to round off its model range with even more exclusive models. Brabus variants boast both exclusive equipment and greater engine power.

The Smart Fortwo Brabus places the primary focus on sportiness. Its three-cylinder one litre petrol engine delivers 72 kW (98 bhp) and develops maximum torque of 140 Newton metres. The transmission has also been configured for this. The first and the fifth gears have different transmission ratios to the pure, pulse and passion and – given the light weight of just 780 kilos – this lends the two-seater remarkably lively agility and enables a maximum speed of 155 km/h (limited). The car sprints from zero to 100 km/h in less than ten seconds.

The exterior of the Fortwo Brabus is first and foremost characterised by sporty "Monoblock VI" alloy wheels. These have 5.5 inch rims with 175/50 R 16 tyres at the front and 7.5 inch rims with 225/35 R 17 tyres at the rear together with external-mounted fender flares in the colour of the body. Furthermore, the Fortwo Brabus boasts a sports exhaust with a specially grained rear apron and fog lamps.

Brabus Smart Fortwo 2008Special Brabus logos and lettering embellish the body in the following places: a logo in the right and left mirror triangles and on the front grille, and Brabus lettering on the rear. The fuel filler flap features an embossed Brabus double B symbol in chrome. Further features include a panoramic roof made of polycarbonate, electric windows, air conditioning with temperature control and the "softouch" automatic gear programme.

A Smart Fortwo Brabus wouldn't be a Brabus if the tuning specialist from Bottrop hadn't also turned its attention to the suspension. This consists of four sports shock absorbers and four coil springs with a Brabus-specific characteristic. The suspension lowers the Fortwo Brabus by 10 millimetres and also provides for more agile and direct handling.

The interior is distinguished from that of normal Fortwo models by a number of Brabus styling features. These include a Brabus metal gear knob, a polished metal hand-brake handle and sports pedals. The speedometer, rev counter and clock also bear the Brabus signature and the gauges, colour and styling of the numbers and pointers are all designed by Brabus.

The same range of exterior colours is available for the Smart Fortwo Brabus as for other Smart Fortwo models. Both the coupe and the cabrio are available as Brabus versions.

Brabus SV12 S Biturbo Roadster

Brabus SV12 S Biturbo RoadsterBrabus SV12 S Biturbo Roadster is the world's most powerful roadster based on the Mercedes-Benz SL-Class.

The Mercedes SL-Class is set to continue its long success story after the latest product update. The Brabus engineers and designers have left no stone unturned to make the roadster even sportier and more exclusive. Equipped with the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo twelve-cylinder twin-turbo engine that delivers 730 hp / 537 kW, the SL 600 turns into the world's most powerful roadster. 0 – 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds and 200 km/h after just 10.9 seconds speak to its prowess as does its top speed electronically limited to 350 km/h.

More power by increasing displacement is one of the core philosophies behind the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo engine. The displacement of the twelve-cylinder three-valve engine is increased from 5.5 to 6.3 litres with the help of a billet steel crankshaft, larger cylinder bore, special pistons and piston rods. The conversion also includes re-machining the cylinder heads and fitting them with special camshafts.

Brabus SV12 S Biturbo RoadsterThe peripherals of the twin-turbo engine also play a large role in the engine's power yield. The Brabus engineers have also developed a completely new turbocharging system with two larger turbochargers and more efficient intercoolers. Metal catalysts with low back pressure let the Brabus SV12 S Biturbo displacement engine breathe more freely.

Special mapping for engine electronics and on-board diagnostics coordinate perfect interaction of the new components and guarantee an optimal symbiosis of maximum power yield and running smoothness. But that's not all: The engine also offers exemplary clean emissions and excellent fuel efficiency in light of the available power. Like all Brabus high-performance engines the most powerful engine in the product lineup is lubricated with ARAL Synthetic Oil.

The Brabus SV12 S Biturbo engine offers impressive performance: Rated power output jumps from standard 517 hp / 380 kW at 5,000 rpm to 730 hp / 537 kW at just 5,100 rpm. Simultaneously peak torque grows from 830 Nm to 1,320 Nm, available from 2,100 rpm. Custom engine mapping ensures that peak torque in the car is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm.

Brabus SV12 S Biturbo RoadsterPerformance of the powerful two-seater speaks volumes: With a sprint time of 4.0 seconds from rest to 100 km/h, 10.5 seconds to 200 km/h, 29.5 seconds to 300 km/h and an electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h the Brabus SV S 12 Biturbo roadster is one of the fastest sports cars in the world.

Form and function at the highest level of perfection: The Brabus aerodynamic-enhancement parts are available for all current SL models and give the SL a sporty yet elegant appearance while at the same time providing aerodynamic benefits. At high speeds they reduce lift on the front axle and thus further improve directional stability.

For the latest SL generation the Brabus designers have developed a strikingly styled front fascia whose sophisticated shape reduces lift on the front axle. The large central air inlet further optimizes cooling of engine and front brakes. The high-quality Pur-R-Rim Brabus front fascia with its four auxiliary headlights is designed to be fastened to the original mounting points and thus simply replaces the production bumper.

The Brabus rocker panels smooth the airstream between the wheel arches and come with a useful extra feature: Pushing a button on the keyless-entry remote or pulling on an inside door handle activates four LED entrance lights on either side of the car. They illuminate the ground next to the vehicle and help to avoid unfortunate missteps in the dark.

The Brabus designer suit for the new SL is rounded out by the Brabus rear fascia with integrated diffuser. It too was designed to replace the original part and fits precisely in its place.

Just as important for a customized look are one-piece or multi-piece Brabus Monoblock light-alloy wheels that can be mounted on the two-seater in various designs and diameters ranging from 17 to 20 inches. The largest possible version for the R 230 series SL features multi-piece Brabus Monoblock VI, S or E wheels in size 9Jx20 in front with size 255/30 ZR 20 tires. On the rear axle the wheels measure 10.5Jx20 with Pirelli or Yokohama tires in size 305/25 ZR 20.

For further improving the incredible handling of the latest SL roadster Brabus has developed an electronic module for the ABC suspension that lowers the ride height by some 15 millimetres.

The Brabus high-performance brake system handles even extreme stress without any signs of weakness. It features vented and cross-drilled 375x28-mm mega-size discs and 12-piston fixed callipers on the front axle. The rear axle features vented and cross-drilled 355x28-mm discs and six-piston fixed callipers.

Luxurious and highly customized interiors are yet another Brabus specialty. The list of available product ranges from exclusive accessories such as genuine carbon-fibre door sills with illuminated Brabus logo to ergonomically shaped sport steering wheels with heated rim and shift paddles. Also available is a speedometer with 360-km/h dial and genuine carbon-fibre interior trim in various colours.

In addition the company-own upholstery shop creates especially exclusive Brabus interiors from a combination of especially soft yet durable Brabus Mastik leather and Alcantara.

To stay online even outside the car the Brabus communication specialists integrated an IBM X-series notebook into an electrically operated drawer in the trunk. The notebook is also connected via W-LAN to the car's computer network.

An additional 6-disc DVD changer rounds out the Brabus interior for the Maybach.

Externally a Maybach refined by Brabus can be distinguished by its custom-tailored Brabus Monoblock VI light-alloy wheels with 21-inch diameter. The fully polished multi-piece wheels with six double spokes fill out the wheel houses of the Maybach perfectly. The rims come in size 9.5Jx21 on the front axle and in size 11Jx21 in the rear axle. Dunlop contributes high-performance tires in size 285/40 R 21 on the front axle and in size 325/35 R 21 in the rear.

The Brabus air suspension unit lowers the ride height of the Maybach by about 15 millimeters without compromising its unique ride comfort.

Brabus further refines the elegant lines of the Maybach with two auxiliary headlights integrated stylishly into the production front apron using two precise-fitting inserts. The auxiliary headlights function as daytime running lights.

Its 550-hp / 405-kW twelve-cylinder bi-turbo engine makes the Maybach a powerful car ex factory. Brabus makes the sedan even more superior with the Brabus SV12 bi-turbo increased-displacement engine using the tried and proven method of increasing displacement, in this case from standard 5.5 to 6.3 litres.

To facilitate the increase in displacement Brabus fits the engine with a special crankshaft with longer stroke, precision-balanced piston rods and larger pistons. In addition the bore is increased and the cylinder heads are re-machined. Also part of the conversion are custom camshafts, newly programmed engine electronics and an exhaust system with metal catalysts, and dual oval-shaped exhaust tips.

After the conversion the twelve-cylinder bi-turbo engine delivers a maximum power output of 640 hp / 471 kW at 5,100 rpm and a gigantic peak torque of 1,026 Nm, available from 1,750 rpm.

Performance of the luxury sedan benefits accordingly: With Brabus SV 12 engine the Maybach 57 accelerates bin just 4.9 seconds from 0 – 100 km/h. Top speed is an electronically limited 300 km/h. Brabus exclusively uses ARAL high-performance lubricants in engine, automatic transmission and rear-axle differential.

Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard Pullman

Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard PullmanMercedes-Benz engineers are currently developing a new, prestigious luxury limousine with integrated highest protection for governments, businesses, monarchs and heads of state. The armoured Pullman Limousine is based on the long version of the S600 with a substantially extended wheelbase length. The Mercedes-Benz State Limousine therefore provides a level of roominess worthy of its high-ranking occupants, not to mention outstanding comfort and a fully equipped mobile office. The S600 Guard Pullman sees the world's oldest car manufacturer continuing its long tradition of building large state carriages with factory-integrated special-protection features.

Tradition and innovation are part of Mercedes-Benz' corporate culture. Nowhere is this more evident than in the construction of large, armoured, prestigious limousines. The Stuttgart-based manufacturer is the only carmaker that develops and builds impressive Pullman limousines with special protection, primarily for the official engagements of heads of state and monarchs. And it has been doing so for some eight decades without interruption.

Originally, Pullman cars were railroad sleeping cars with luxurious appointments, produced by the American Pullman Palace Car Company; however, it was not long before the name "Pullman" also came to describe Mercedes-Benz cars with an extra-long wheelbase and an extremely large passenger compartment in the rear. Separated from the front compartment by a partition, the rear compartment housed four individual face-to-face seats, allowing four passengers to sit opposite each other in truly grand style.

Mercedes-Benz Pullman Limousine History

The very first Mercedes-Benz car to be factory-fitted with special protection, in 1928, was a long Pullman version of the W08/460 Nrburg model. This was followed first by the 770K, which provided protection befitting the status of the Japanese Emperor Hirohito among others, and then by further Pullman Limousines. Eventually, the legendary Mercedes-Benz 600 assumed the mantle of state carriage, holding it for almost thirty years. As well as being used by the government of the Federal Republic of Germany for official business it was the preferred vehicle of governments from numerous other countries and many prominent dynasties. Further Pullman versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-Guard featuring special protection followed in these illustrious footsteps. Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler: "The new Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard Pullman continues an impressive tradition and, as before, will offer the very highest levels of protection, comfort and prestige."

Governments, heads of state and royalty all over the world have always appreciated Mercedes-Benz' vast experience and pioneering technical achievements in the construction of prestigious limousines featuring special protection. The luxury limousine not only provides all the communications and entertainment equipment they need, it also offers them space for discreet meetings. So they have everything perfectly under control, whatever the situation, with the added bonus of highly comfortable, individually styled surroundings.

Newly developed based on the S600
In terms of technology, the new Pullman Limousine is based on the flagship Mercedes Benz S600 L Guard model. Power comes courtesy of a smooth twelve-cylinder biturbo engine with a displacement of 5513 cc, an output of 380 kW/517 hp and an impressive peak torque of 830 Nm.

Both the chassis and the body are new developments, since simply adding on an extension would not have ensured the required overall stability, given the extra-long wheelbase. These new developments also provide the solid design basis for the installation of the heavy special-protection components. In addition, the new State Limousine features a rear entrance with increased headroom. Behind the partition, there is space for four passengers in the rear compartment with luxurious face-to-face seats in the time-honoured Pullman tradition.

Integrated special protection for highest possible security
The Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard Pullman also offers its discerning passengers the highest possible degree of protection against terrorist attacks. The Highest Protection specified for this car is equivalent to resistance level B6/B7, as tested and certified by state-approved organisations. Plus it meets further requirements that are not even stipulated by any standard, as tested by public and independent organisations. Its armour resists military-standard small-arms projectiles and provides protection against fragments from hand grenades and other explosive devices. Additional safety features include run-flat tyres, a self-sealing fuel tank and a fire-extinguishing system.

In order to achieve the highest possible degree of protection, specialists with many years of experience in security technology equip the Pullman Limousine in Sindelfingen, working on the principle of integrated special protection. In effect this means that, rather than retrofitting the protective elements in the doors, rear wall, side panels, roof lining and firewall, etc. of an already finished vehicle, they fully integrate them into the bodyshell. Hence the body structure is further reinforced. The resulting vehicles offer hallmark Mercedes-Benz build quality combined with comprehensive Highest Protection, including in those areas where retrofits would be all but impossible. The basis for this is long-standing, continuous and close cooperation with nationally and internationally recognised security authorities. Over a period of decades, this collaboration has ensured that the production and development expertise of the Mercedes specialists has continued to grow. Their vast experience in the fields of protection technology and ballistics enables them to react to changing requirements in the most effective way possible.

Thanks to seamless integration of the special-protection features, the paint quality and corrosion protection match the high standards of conventional Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. Furthermore, the Pullman Limousines can be serviced at any Mercedes-Benz service outlet world-wide a key aspect of the comprehensive, uncomplicated high-level service concept.

It goes without saying that every new Mercedes-Benz S600 Guard Pullman will display its own unique brand of styling thanks to an extensive range of appointments options including a choice of paint finishes, leathers and woods. Even the most unusual of customer requests can be met.

The first editions of the new Mercedes-Benz State Limousine are due to be delivered in late 2008.
